I am a firm believer that art can change someone’s life, and help to develop a more beautiful, creative and smarter point of view, which can also improve your performance in your career.  Like the Renaissance’s artists taught us, combining science, philosophy, mathematics,  visual art, literature… etc will assist us to achieve excellence.   Which is why I’m so happy to find out that some universities are including art classes to their med curriculum: Why Med Schools Are Requiring Art Classes

In this documentary every word spoken by the actors is sourced from the letters that Van Gogh sent to his younger brother Theo, and of those around him. What emerges is a complex portrait of a sophisticated, civilized, tormented and yet loving man; someone who can express his deepest and darkest feeling with beauty.

I always say that a good painting does not need to be explained with words, but Vincent’s letters are as much as his art as his paintings; with his own words Vincent describes his unique perspective of life, his poetic heart, with words he painted his soul.

If you haven’t fallen in love with Vincent yet, I’m sure after watching this you probably will: Vincent Van Gogh: Painted with Words

Hi everyone,

There is something I would like to share with you all: I started watching this series called “Work of Art: The next Great Artist” by Bravo, and it’s become evident to me that most of the artists competing have not trained their eyes to good art.

I always tell artists the importance to train their eyes to good art, especially the classical (well-skilled) movements like: Baroque, Renaissance, also Impressionism.  Even if you are an urbanist artist, futurist artist, abstract artist go to the museums of classical art, read books about the great masters, contemplate their work, learn their process, study their techniques; this way you can train your eyes to high skilled art, developing a critical sense of aesthetics,  helping to bring their greatness to your movement, improving your style, and becoming indeed a Great Artist.

“Some people are born teachers. Some people are born footballers. I’m a born burglar.”

Says Octave Durham confessing to have stolen two priceless Vincent Van Gogh paintings, feat which only took him 3 minutes and 40 seconds. For someone who brags for being born with burglar’s natural skills, he doesn’t seem very wonted of thinking it through.

What bothers me the most with these “art crimes” is the fact that they (the burglars) are putting in risk something they have no idea how to properly handle (sometimes causing some serious damages to it); and the saddest part is that the stolen art works, if not recovered, can never be replaced.  They not only steal the art, they also steal our cultural heritage, our past and future, our identity. Here is a nice article on the Art Market for 2017: Art market predictions for 2017.  I really liked what Jussi Pylkanen from Christie’s said: “The art world is very simple, in any era and in any economic climate, the greatest artworks by the greatest artists generate record prices – forget the period. In 2016, Rembrandt eclipsed Monet, De Kooning and Rubens.”  Quality will always have value.

Is it a Van Gogh or a Gogh Van?

So apparently the publisher of “The Lost Arles Sketchbook” by Van Gogh is threatening to take legal action if anyone says the drawings are fake:

“reserved the right to undertake any appropriate action to repair the damage caused by these claims that describe her [the book’s owner] as a forger.”

In my opinion the drawings have a very modern style, and lack of details. My guess is that if the drawings are fakes, then they have been made relatively recently. Let’s stay tuned….
